ABOUT FLINT RIVER RANCH PET FOOD

A WORD ABOUT PET NUTRITION

All of us strive to provide healthy food for our dogs and cats. But what brand of food should we buy? We are inundated with ads that claim “Breeders Choice”, “Veterinarian Recommended” or “Complete Nutrition”. Sounds great. What does it mean? Less than you may have hoped for.

If you blindly trust the claims made in advertisements you are very likely to end up feeding your beloved pets garbage. Yes, garbage, if not worse. For your animals’ sake you need to know how to interpret the ingredients list on the pet food bags and understand what’s going on with the pet food industry and other issues concerning your animals’ health.

We highly recommend you read two books by Ann N. Martin: Foods Pets Die For: Shocking Facts About Pet Food and Protect Your Pet: More Shocking Facts (Dangers of Commercial Pet Foods - Excessive Vaccinations - Increased Cancer in Pets etc.) Published by New Sage Press.

AT SPRING FARM CARES WE FEED FLINT RIVER RANCH SUPER PREMIUM CANINE AND FELINE HEALTH FOOD

In our quest to feed the cats and dogs in our shelter healthy food, we started in 1995 to feed Flint River Ranch Super Premium All-Natural Canine and Feline Health Food diets. Within a month we saw incredible changes: shinier coats, more playfulness, greater vitality, good spirits, and picky eaters asking for seconds. We have amazing stories about the improvements we saw in animals with significant health challenges. We raised 14 puppies and uncounted litters of kittens on this food with fantastic results. Our vets are often surprised how big and healthy the youngsters are and ask what we feed. We also have heard of wonderful successes from many of the people who switched to FRR food after reading about it in our newsletter. Today we are still just as pleased with the quality of this food and what it does for the health of our animals.

What makes Flint River Ranch Super Premium Food our choice?

Chicken meal and other meat sources used do not contain any by-products, such as chicken or fish heads, chicken feet, intestines, or any rendered animals or animal parts

HOW YOU CAN HELP YOUR AND OUR CATS AND DOGS WITHOUT EXTRA COST TO YOU

We were and are so impressed with how our hundreds of animals are thriving on Flint River Ranch Super Premium pet food, that we became a Flint River Ranch Distributor. That means, we market Flint River Ranch food - gladly, cheerfully and with utter confidence - because we have living proof that it is very good for dogs and cats.

Admittedly, marketing isn’t our strong point, even with such an excellent product. But we do it because of the mutual benefit to your animals and to ours at the sanctuary. Let me explain: As you buy Flint River Ranch products, and you are initially signed up as a customer under the Spring Farm CARES distributorship (Distributor # 8942), we automatically receive a commission for every one of your purchases.

Without additional expense to you, and while you are feeding your animals this great food, you help us to be able to afford to feed our sanctuary animals this good food as well. It’s a win - win situation for your animals and for ours.

On behalf of all the four-leggeds and two-leggeds, - the furred, feathered or neither - we thank you very much for supporting Spring Farm CARES through your purchase of Flint River Ranch health food for pets. We hope that this food will be as beneficial to your animals as it is to ours.

FLINT RIVER RANCH NOT INVOLVED WITH PET FOOD RECALL

In light of the catastrophic pet food recall that is going on right now, we are relieved here at Spring Farm to be feeding most of our dogs and cats Flint River Ranch Pet Food. If you are already feeding this premium food or another high quality human grade food, you are probably letting out a sigh of relief right now. As mentioned above on this web page, the pet food industry is in strong need of a complete revamping. Nothing underscores this more than the hundreds, probably thousands, of animals that are either sick or have already died from this tragedy. The standards for pet food must be changed. Below is a letter from the President of Flint River Ranch to their customers and distributors to explain why they are not involved in this recall and what they do for quality assurance of their product. It is incredibly sad the number of lives this tragedy has touched. Right now the "official" numbers are low but just from what we have heard from veterinarians in our immediate area, the numbers are MUCH higher and we probably will never have an accurate count of how many lives were lost because of this chemical that tainted one ingredient used by so many products. Please make yourself aware and educate yourself about the pet food industry as a whole so that you can make the appropriate decisions for you and your animals for their nutritional needs and their safety.

Dear FRR Customers & Distributors: I know that the news of yet another pet food recall and the scale of this recall is disconcerting to us all. No one likes to see this kind of thing happen, not even to a competitor. We are all aware that somewhere down in this story…families have lost their beloved pets. It saddens us to think of their unexpected & shocking loss of a pet, friend, companion…just by feeding these tainted products.

I wanted everyone to be aware of the following:

Flint River Ranch does not buy from the supplier of the suspect ingredient(s) in Canada around this problem. You'll have to take our word on that as I don't even know who they are exactly, but we don't buy from anyone in Canada and as of yet do not provide canned or pouched wet products, so this doesn't affect us.

One of the reasons that we have never had and probably will never have a problem like this is that we don't buy not from small independent suppliers, jumping around to get the best price. Every ingredient is tested before we use it and buying from major producers' means that we get a better, safer product. Additionally, all of our formulas are tested every 15 minutes for standards as cooked and samples kept for 6 months. All ingredients used are bought from known producers with many years of a strong relationship between us. Chicken and grains from nationally known human-food producers equals human-grade rating and USDA protocol testing of those ingredients we buy. Some manufactures may like to shop around and go for the best pricing...sometimes that will land you in trouble. Better to stay assured on the quality and vitality of ingredients that you're consistently using.

It is our bond and pledge to our customers that Flint River Ranch will produce the finest quality of canine & feline products we can, for you to provide to your beloved pets. Our professional associations are only with companies who produce or provide products at the same level as we do. I have no idea as to what has occurred with this recall, but I know that Flint River Ranch is only affected in the positive by it. It will help us to our customers of the love & care that we put into all our products.

Thank you for your support and concern on this issue and for being a part of the Flint River Ranch family! Jay P. Margedant

FURTHER UPDATE

The scare about Melamine in pet food

Some time ago the Flint River Ranch Company was asked “Is there any chance that Flint River Ranch pet food could contain Melamine?”

The answer from the Flint River Ranch Company:

"Not a chance...we're just not that big. We only buy from the same suppliers that we've had for the past 14 years...Jim Flint set up very good relationships which are more than paying off now.

No, we don't use the "rice protein source" that is indicated by NB.

Hills, Post, Menu, Nature Balance, and all these other manufactures make millions of pounds of product a year...FRR, not near so much. They will of course go overseas to get the cheapest ingredient that they can to make these millions of pounds of product. They can afford to offset the cost of increased shipping because of these great deals on ingredients they can get. We cannot, nor would we. We're not about the "all-mighty buck" at FRR...we're trying to be a positive influence in our customers and distributors lives. In a small, important way...we've managed that.

There is no reason to test for these chemicals. They are banned from use in America for well over 10 years. We only buy from American sources...except for our lamb (New Zealand) and Bonita flakes (from Japanese waters). We don't get anything else imported. There is no issue with any American sourced grains.

Thank you for your orders and support of FRR!”
