RABBIT ASSISTANCE INFORMATION

Domestic rabbits are now the third most common species turned into shelters and rescues nationwide. Many shelter facilities are not prepared for an intake of a pet rabbit. With some creative modification, you can set up an area for small pets such as rabbits and rodents.

When dealing with an intake of many bunnies, it is often difficult to find facilities to take transfers. In New York State, the resources are very scarce. You can try your local House Rabbit Society Chapter at www.rabbit.org for more information or assistance.

For large rescues (seizures, relinquishments from animal collectors, etc.) please call Joanne Cronan Hamoy at Spring Farm CARES at (315) 737-0933 for assistance in organizing such endeavors.

Spring Farm CARES is always at maximum capacity for rabbit relinquishments. We are often called from other shelters to take in rabbits. About 60% of our bunnies are from other shelters. Please call us first and we will do our best to help you. We can help you with adoption packets on rabbit care. We also have packets available for veterinarian/health care staff on rabbit care.
